Organic Honey/Jam

Why we rely on honey — not sugar

Honey is not a sugar substitute. It is a complex natural product with over 200 bioactive substances — enzymes, flavonoids, organic acids, antimicrobial compounds. Refined sugar has none of these. If you sweeten, you should know what you're sweetening with.

  • Antimicrobial effect — Honey contains hydrogen peroxide and methylglyoxal (MGO), which are proven to act against bacteria — used for millennia, now scientifically confirmed
  • Lower glycemic index than table sugar — Honey has a GI of approx. 55–65 (depending on the variety), table sugar 65–70. The difference lies in the fructose-glucose ratio and the contained enzymes
  • Prebiotic effect — Oligosaccharides in honey promote the growth of bifidobacteria in the gut — an effect that refined sugar does not have

Why selected beekeepers — and no China import

Over 40% of the honey sold in the EU comes from China or is relabeled via third countries. EU food authorities have repeatedly detected contamination with antibiotics (chloramphenicol, nitrofurans) and pesticides in imported goods.

  • Traceability to the beehive — we know our beekeepers personally. Every honey can be assigned to a region, a beekeeper, and a forage area — no anonymous mixed goods
  • No antibiotic treatment — in conventional beekeeping — especially in Asia — bee colonies are regularly treated with antibiotics. Residues end up in the honey. With our beekeepers: excluded
  • Seasonal harvest, not industrial mass production — real honey is harvested once or twice a year, gently extracted, and cold-filled. Industrial honey is produced year-round, heated, and filtered

Why organic honey — what certification really means

Organic honey is more strictly regulated than most people think. It's not enough to not use pesticides — the entire environment of the bees must be low in pesticides.

  • 3km pesticide-free radius — Organic beekeeping requires that bee colonies must be placed at least 3km away from conventional agriculture, industrial areas, and main roads
  • No synthetic varroa treatments — Conventional beekeepers treat varroa mites with synthetic acaricides (e.g., amitraz, flumethrin). Organic beekeepers only use organic acids (oxalic acid, formic acid)
  • Beeswax without pesticide contamination — Wax accumulates pesticides over years. Organic certification ensures that the wax in the hive is also clean — which directly affects bee health

Best in combination

  • Organic Honey + Hay Milk Yogurt or Organic Skyr — Honey provides readily available energy and prebiotic oligosaccharides, yogurt protein and probiotics — synergistic for gut and satiety
  • Organic Jam + Oat Flakes — natural fruit sweetness with a high fruit content complements neutral oats — without refined sugar
  • Organic Honey in Tea — let it cool to approx. 40°C first, then stir it in — above 40°C, enzymes and antioxidants are destroyed
